Ø Write a rap to tell the story. Be prepared to perform your original rap and turn in your original written lyrics.
Ø A critical moment is a point in the story that is pivotal—or a turning point. It is when you suddenly realize an essential point that the author is trying to make. Chose a critical moment from the story and rewrite it from two characters’ perspectives of that moment.
Ø Design costumes for the main characters based on clothing during that time period. Costume designs must be complete in detail. Some type of display must be included.
Ø Compose a song expressing the views of one or more characters. Perform it.
Ø Write and perform a monologue (short speech) to deliver as one of the characters. Your monologue should convey a moral lesson that your character has learned.
Ø Pretend you are a character in the book. Write and perform a monologue (short speech) exploring how you as the character change throughout the play.
Ø Pick another book, movie, poem, etc. that centers on the theme of friendship and /or injustice and compare the two using a visual representation such as a chart, Venn diagram, or table.
Ø Create a clever way to communicate the actual history of the story's setting. Communicate your findings through a performance, visual display or a research paper. Be sure to include your sources.
Ø Create a diorama of a scene from the story.
Ø Select a theme song for each of three characters that can be connected to the themes. Bring in music, lyrics, and a written explanation of your choices. Written explanations can be in the form of a paper or visual display.
Ø Create a table of contents and develop your own chapter names for each of the book's chapters. Each newly created chapter name should capture the main idea of the chapter.
Ø Design a detailed billboard-like poster advertising the book. Include three or more characters, quotations, scenes, or moments that would make other students interested in reading this book.
Ø Compose the front page of a newspaper that depicts four events in the story. Include headlines, graphics, and any other content that one might find on the front page of a newspaper.
Ø Create a map of the main character's world. Include a detailed legend with at least 20 items included. Legend items should help us understand the character's view of reality. Provide a written explanation to support your decide.
Ø Create a “Biography”-like television program that profiles the life/career of a main character.
Ø Create a 1-minute book commercial using a digital video camera and share it with the class. Tell us why the book is a book we should all read.
