School Library Mission, Philosophy, and Goals

This document includes the mission and goals for the school library media center, as well as my philosophy statement.

 

School Library Policies and Procedures, Cataloging Policy Addendum, and Collection Development Policy

This is a large section of the media center manual. It includes the technology plan and selection, weeding, circulation, acquisition, and collaboration policies, among other related topics.

 

School Library Position Descriptions

This section of my media center manual includes clear job descriptions for the media specialist, media clerk, student aide, and adult volunteer.

 

School Library Finance

This section include purchasing priorities, budgeting procedures, and fundraising resources.

 

School Library Student Aide and Volunteer Programming

Included here are weekly and quarterly performance rubrics for student aides, as well as the library student aide application with teacher recommendations, and a complete application for adult volunteers. In addition, a volunteer recruitment and retention plan is provided along with pre-assessments for aides and volunteers.

 

School Library Advocacy and Marketing

This section features highlights from the mock school library web page I created, as well as samples of communications used for marketing and advocacy purposes such as brochures, newsletters, etc.

 

School Library Facilities with Ideal Library Layout

The main component of this section is facility standards that ensure ADA access for patrons and community members, as well as a visual ideal library layout.

 

School Library Leadership and Professional Development

These two final sections are combined into one because they are closely interrelated. The leadership (staff development) portion highlights a variety of activities that can be used during staff development sessions, as well as suggested topics for in-service days. The professional development section is where the reader can more clearly understand my professional affiliations, philosophies and opinions, as well as my future goals as they pertain to the school library media center.
